Lifeguards

Areas/Zones
The Lifeguards are spread into 13 Areas/Zones across the beaches of Karachi. Each Area/Zone is led by a Lifeguard supervisor with his team. The details of each patrolled Area/Zone are as follows:

Training/Level of Expertise
All lifeguards have been trained by Surf Life Saving New Zealand's Northern Region (SLSNR), in accordance with training methods and processes in New Zealand.

PALS lifeguards have surpassed all the recommended guidelines and standards for lifeguard agencies in open water conditions. PALS lifeguards possess the following levels of expertise:

• Near shore rescue techniques (including use of Rescue tubes, rescue boards, IRB's)
• Emergency Medical Aid Services (EMAS)
• Open Water Signal techniques
• Underwater search and recovery techniques
• Trained to operate Lifeguard boats and other water rescue vehicles
• Identification of Rip Currents and Holes
• Safe Beach Zone demarcation
• Crowd management and control
• Beach Education
• Understanding the technicalities and responsibilities of the Lifeguard Communications Center
